An Exploration of Global Social and Economic Policy Data: Tools to Improve Well-being and Equity

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The session will be a data expedition into globally comparative data on social and economic policies affecting human health, development, well-being, and equity, covering hundreds of aspects of laws, policies, and constitutional rights in 193 countries. We will describe the approach WORLD Policy Analysis Center has taken to building the first and largest globally comparative policy databases. We will then explore the quantitative data sets developed by the WORLD Policy Analysis Center on work-family policies, child marriage, child labor, poverty reduction, education, and constitutional rights and equity protections to demonstrate how this data has been used by civil society to hold countries accountable for their actions and international commitments and identify the leaders and laggards. Finally, we will show how this data can be used by researchers to establish links between policies and outcomes in WHO, World Bank, and household surveys such as DHS and to give policymakers the tools they need to improve the lives of their citizens.
